There are some fantastic National Trust properties in the local area with Lanhydrock being the closest, just 15 minutes away, an elegant 19th-century stately home with fine interiors and set in scenic parkland with bike trails.

For those keen to venture further west, the National Maritime Museum is well worth a visit, in combination with a stroll around the arty town of Falmouth with numerous interesting cafes and galleries

Camel Valley Vineyard produces fantastic wines, and runs tours and tasting sessions

A day trip to the West of Cornwall is highly recommended (about 1.5 hours from Botelet).  Visit the stunning seaside of St Ives, famed for its distinctive light that makes it a haven for artists.  Pop into the numerous art galleries and visit The Tate. From St Ives, take the coastal road towards Land’s End via St Just, through rugged coastline.  Just East of Land’s end, visit The Minack, an open-air theatre carved into the granite cliffs above Porthcurno.  Continue East to Penzance and take a dip in the art deco lido, Jubilee Pool on Penzance’s promenade, before exploring the magnificent medieval castle set atop St Michael’s Mount.

Outdoors & Active

Cornwall is well known for boasting magnificent beaches, and there’s something for everyone – the quiet, lesser-known little coves such as Lantic Bay or Lansallos that are just south of Botelet, or the large stretches of sandy surfing beaches of the north coast of Cornwall such as Polzeath or Watergate Bay (approx. 40 mins drive) which are also fantastic surfing spots.

The coastal path surrounds the whole of Cornwall, so head to the sea and you will find a footpath that you can join.

Kayaks, boats, windsurfers and stand-up paddle boards can be hired locally.  Close to Botelet, you can explore the creeks of the Fowey estuary by canoe, join a guided group or hire independently.  Fishing trips can be organised in Looe, 20 minutes south of Botelet; bring your catch back and fire up the barbecue for a feast back at base.

For cyclists, bikes can be hired and delivered to you at Botelet, or there are a number of great cycle routes around Cornwall for all abilities, with bike hire options.  A favourite for those looking for a gentle cycle is the Camel Trail, following the route of a disused railway line, you can either join at Bodmin or Wadebridge, then cycle along the estuary to the pretty fishing town of Padstow – a perfect ice cream and fish & chips stop before turning around and heading back.

Dartmoor is well worth a visit, with fantastic hiking, stunning views and an almost inevitable rendezvous with some wild ponies!

Right on our doorstep, a mile down the lanes, is Polmartin Riding Stables where guests can book in for hacks along the hillside paths and woodland.

Don your running shoes and step out along the lanes from Botelet, there are a number of great circular routes on our doorstep along pretty, quiet country lanes.

Food & Drink

The owners provide a bottle of Cornish apple juice made by a local company, Cornish Orchards, located just four miles from Botelet.  Cooking essentials such as oil, salt and pepper along with tea and coffee are placed in the yurt.

This includes homemade muesli, granola, bread and jams, served with fruit (from the garden where possible), compotes and espresso coffee, teas and fresh squeezed juice. Please check availability with the owners.

Local shops

The nearest shop is Pelynt Spar, 4 miles away. Driving is advisable due to the route along a fairly busy road. There are supermarkets and larger grocery stores in the towns of Liskeard, Looe and Lostwithiel, driving distance from Botelet.

Meet your hosts

Meet the Tamblyn Family

The Tamblyn family have lived at Botelet for 150 years, and have been welcoming guests since the 1930s, when Richard and Julie’s grandmother began opening up the farmhouse for B&B.  Barbara (Richard and Julie’s mother) also let some of the rooms in the farmhouse for bed and breakfast during the 1960s along with converting a disused railway carriage as a self-catering chalet. Since the 1980s the current generation have been doing a combination of self-catering and bed and breakfast at Botelet. Richard welcomed Lower Yurt to Botelet approximately fifteen years ago, as an addition to the two historical self-catering cottages.

Three generations live at Botelet today – Richard and his wife Tia along with their three young children, Richard’s sister Julie and their parents David and Barbara.

Wildlife & Environment

Staying at Botelet gives a unique glimpse into the living history of the farm, which has been nurtured and styled by the Tamblyn family for the past 150 years.  Situated in the sparsely populated South East of Cornwall, the farm comprises of 300 acres of stream-crossed farm and woodland free for guests to explore. Cattle and sheep graze the wild flower meadows and a handful of chickens can be found roaming the fields. Extensive work has been done to restore historical features in the landscape, like the Cornish hedgerows using traditional methods and around 1000 trees and hedging plants are planted each year on the farm as timber is coppiced from the hedgerows to provide logs for the fires.

Booking Terms

Canopy & Stars low price promise
Book with us in confidence knowing you won’t find that place cheaper elsewhere. All of the prices we display are set and matched by our Owners. (In this world of foreign currency, we do have to say 'subject to exchange rates' for some of our European places.)

What does ‘from price’ mean?
Our ‘from price’ is based on a four night stay in low season and designed to help you to compare different prices across our collection. Some of our Owners vary their nightly rates and check in days throughout the year, so it may differ from the rate quoted below the calendar. It is quite common (although by no means universal) for places to charge a little more in peak season or for shorter stays, to cover changeover costs. Consider booking longer stays during the cooler months if you’re looking for the lowest nightly rates.
